Maryann is proud of her ability to not sell too much fabric.
“I don’t like to sell my customers more fabric than they need,” says Maryann. “I am very precise with my measurements and always tell my customers to be sure they measure and pin TWICE before cutting because that old adage of ‘measure twice, cut once’ is really true.”
Maryann’s precision stems from her 11 years as a home economics teacher and another decade of running her own flag-making business out of her home. She’s been working with Osgood’s for five years and, true to her home ec background, says she knows a little about a lot.
For example, did you know there are several different shades of ivory? According to Maryann, ivory comes with a variety of undertones, including pink, blue and yellow. If you’re looking for an ivory fabric for a chair, it’s important to know the other colors in the room as well as the wall color, so the right ivory is chosen to complement and blend with the existing color palette.
“I always ask customers lots of questions,” Maryann explains. “They may think I’m a little nosy at first, but we have to get to know how they’re using a fabric so we can be sure it’s right for the job. You don’t want to use a silk for a shower curtain, or a fabric that will fade if your room gets a lot of sun.”
